Compliance Officer & AML Analyst
Our client, a regulated Virtual Asset Service Provider, is seeking a skilled Compliance Officer & AML Analyst to strengthen its Compliance and AML/CFT frameworks. The selected candidate will support the Compliance Function and act as the Compliance Officer, while working closely with the MLRO to ensure full compliance with MFSA, EU, and international regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance Duties
- Support the planning, implementation, and continuous monitoring of the company’s compliance programme.
- Draft, review, and update internal policies, procedures, and controls to maintain alignment with MFSA, EU, and other applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Conduct compliance monitoring, fieldwork, and thematic reviews to test adherence to policies, regulations, and governance standards.
- Prepare and submit periodic compliance reports, including risk assessments, monitoring reviews, and findings for management and the Board.
- Maintain accurate compliance records, registers, and documentation.
- Review internal reports, questionnaires, and statistics to identify gaps or areas of non-compliance.
- Assist in the design and delivery of staff training and awareness sessions on compliance obligations.
- Participate in ad-hoc projects aimed at enhancing compliance, governance, and risk management frameworks.
AML / CFT Duties
- Assist the MLRO in conducting Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), and KYC checks on both new and existing clients.
- Support client onboarding, ongoing transaction monitoring, and sanctions/PEP screening.
- Maintain AML/CFT registers and contribute to periodic AML reporting for the MLRO and the Board.
- Escalate suspicious activity and assist with the drafting of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) in coordination with the MLRO.
- Provide day-to-day support on AML/CFT matters, ensuring alignment with FIAU regulatory requirements.
Skills & Qualifications Required
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a compliance, AML, or risk role within a financial services provider, corporate services firm, fiduciary, or law firm.
- A degree at MQF Level 6 or higher in Law, Finance, Business Administration, Compliance, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., ICA, ACAMS, CSCP) will be considered an asset.
- Solid knowledge of compliance frameworks, corporate governance, and applicable legislation (MFSA Rulebooks, GDPR, AMLD, and company law).
- Strong understanding of AML/CFT obligations, counter-terrorism financing, and FIAU guidance notes.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English; additional languages will be considered an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and escalate compliance risks.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently under the supervision of the Compliance Officer and MLRO.
- Team-oriented mindset with strong interpersonal skills and adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving regulatory environment.
Additional Information
- Prior experience in compliance or AML roles within the payments or crypto sector will be considered a strong asset.
- Candidates who have previously been PQ’d by the MFSA will be given priority consideration.
