The Role
The successful candidate will assume a senior leadership role within the audit function and will be responsible for:
Acting as engagement in-charge for audit assignments, overseeing and directing the work of junior staff in line with the firm’s audit methodology
Planning and executing audit engagements in collaboration with engagement management and teams, ensuring compliance with professional standards, risk assessments, and engagement objectives
Building and maintaining strong client relationships, serving as the primary day-to-day contact and monitoring client satisfaction
Monitoring engagement progress against budgets and timelines, adapting strategies as required to ensure timely delivery
Demonstrating and promoting a strong commitment to audit quality standards and best practices across all engagements
Leading by example by setting high standards for audit quality and providing coaching, guidance, and constructive feedback to team members
Enforcing audit quality standards and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
Proactively managing billing and collection matters while maintaining positive client relationships
Leveraging audit technology tools and firm-standard software to enhance efficiency, quality, and service delivery
Preparing and reviewing high-quality client correspondence and communications
Encouraging effective communication, collaboration, inclusivity, and knowledge sharing within engagement teams
In addition, the role includes:
Creating a productive, innovative, and learning-focused team environment
Setting clear objectives, communicating expectations, and maximizing team performance and contribution
Maintaining a strong understanding of the firm’s service lines and identifying opportunities to apply firm expertise to client needs
Taking full ownership and accountability for engagement deliverables, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timeliness
Delegating effectively, monitoring performance, and providing ongoing feedback and support
Managing, motivating, mentoring, and appraising staff, identifying training needs and supporting continuous professional development
Ensuring all work complies with the firm’s audit methodology, quality standards, and audit approach
Upholding professional ethics and liability standards, escalating independence, ethical, or conflict matters to senior leadership as required
Demonstrating strong project and time management skills across multiple concurrent engagements
Developing in-depth knowledge of client industries and providing value-added insights and recommendations
Reviewing audit work and financial statements for smaller entities within group audits
Performing other duties within the scope of the role and skill set as required
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
Full qualification with a recognised professional accounting body such as ACCA, ACA/CA, CPA, or equivalent
Holding, or being eligible to obtain, a Maltese Auditor’s Warrant / Practising Certificate is considered a strong asset
Between 5 and 10 years’ experience in an external audit environment, with progressive responsibility
Proven experience managing audit engagements from planning through to completion and reporting
Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, and reviewing the work of audit teams
Strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and sound professional judgement
The ability to manage multiple engagements and meet strict deadlines
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective client relationships
Fluency in English
