Credit Risk Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced Credit Risk Manager to join its Risk Management function in Malta. This is a second line of defence role responsible for providing independent oversight and challenge across the Bank's risk management framework, with a particular focus on credit risk while also supporting broader enterprise risk activities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening the Bank's risk governance framework, monitoring the risk profile, supporting regulatory initiatives, and ensuring compliance with regulatory expectations and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Support the identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting of the Bank's key risks, including credit, liquidity, operational, conduct, concentration and IRRBB risk.
Maintain and enhance the Bank's Risk Management Framework, Risk Appetite Framework, policies and procedures.
Monitor risk appetite metrics, KRIs and risk limits, investigating breaches and escalating material issues where appropriate.
Provide independent second line oversight and challenge across first line risk activities, controls and decision-making processes.
Conduct risk assessments, thematic reviews and control testing to evaluate the effectiveness of the Bank's control environment.
Monitor the Bank's credit portfolio, including arrears, non-performing exposures (NPEs), recoveries, concentration risk and portfolio trends.
Review and challenge credit underwriting standards, lending strategies and portfolio monitoring processes.
Assess credit risk methodologies, impairment approaches and IFRS 9 assumptions, supporting ongoing model validation and enhancement.
Investigate operational risk events, control failures and incidents, ensuring appropriate remediation actions are implemented.
Prepare risk reports and management information for Senior Management, Board Committees and the Board.
Support ICAAP, ILAAP, Recovery Planning, stress testing and contingency funding activities.
Assist during regulatory inspections, supervisory reviews and internal audits, ensuring timely delivery of documentation and effective follow-up of remediation plans.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Banking & Finance, Economics, Risk Management, Accounting or a related discipline.
Minimum 5 years' experience within risk management, credit risk, ICAAP/ILAAP, internal audit or a similar control function in financial services.
Strong understanding of banking regulation, corporate governance and enterprise risk management principles.
Experience performing independent risk assessments, control reviews and risk reporting.
Excellent analytical, communication and report-writing skills.
Ability to challenge stakeholders constructively while maintaining independence.
Experience supporting ICAAP, ILAAP, stress testing or Recovery Planning will be considered an asset.
Professional qualifications such as FRM, PRM or CFA are considered an advantage.
